Hi,
Can anyone help?
I seem to be loosing coolant and oil following mainly motorway journeys. I get the check messages on the computer and when I check the levels they are both empty. I then top up and the same happens the week after etc. I don't seem to be overheating and cannot see any apparent leaks under the car or whilst it's being stood on my drive etc?
I've checked for poss head gasket symptoms i.e water in oil, oil in water, brown gunge and mayo on oil filler cap but these seem to be ok.
Can anybody help me please?
Thanks,
Paul

Have you got oil in your spark plug wells???

Not that I am aware of. To be honest I'm a little clueless on cars. I've been told it could be Head gasket, HBV, Oil coolers etc.. Not sure what to think or how much I'm looking at to repair.. Thanks for your reply

Hi Paul, I suspect that you have 2 minor faults from what you say.
1. The heater control valve has just started leaking, and so it only leaks under full pressure i.e. at motorway speed
2. The engine is burning oil.
You havent stated how many miles are on the clock so I can only guess that you have passed 100,000 miles.
You could get the HCV replaced and have an oil change.
But make sure they flush the oil as that will deglaze the bores.
If there are no leaks or gunge its difficult to say what the problem is
Cheers

Agreed its quite possibleits 2 seperate problems...although I suspect the oil loss may be leaking cam gaskets due to blocked breather system...which you can usually tell by pulling the plug leads and seeing if any have oil in them...should be completely dry...

It's more likely to be leaking than burning, on a V6...
I can't agree with the flushing comment. Don't do it, it can disturb crud which distrubs oil delivery.
Lots of frequent oil changes is better - once you've located the leak ;)

Thats an AWFUL lot of oil to lose on a run ... If it's a leak it must be visible somewhere .. if you are burning it you should have a cloud of blue smoke behind you !!
Can you confirm you are losing over a litre of oil at a time ???
:(

Hi, thanks for the replies....
I cannot see any leak anywhere but agree I am losing around a litre or so each week. I cannot see any blue or white smoke whilst idling or driving. I get the check oil and coolant level warnings on the computer and do did they are in deed very low. Its a strange one as I cannot see any apparent leaks under the car......
Cheers Guys.
