Title: Rough idling when starting
Post by: kcl on 29 September 2008, 07:33:40
Have had this incident on two mornings in a row: car starts, but seems to be running with less than six cylinders, vibrating for a few seconds and then levels to normal. Have had similar with some other cars when they have had water in combustion chamber, but afaik head gasket failure is very rare. Also this has only appeared in the morning, and have had normal starts in between. No codes (checked with the pedal trick) and no EML. Any ideas? Car has been serviced ok and has just had a cambelt done by dealer.

check the condition of the coil packs, its possible they have cracked / damaged causing one bank to misfire?  :-/

Also check for oil in the plugs.

Agree... Mine was the same, misfired and could feel engine shaking the car. Only did it for 3-4 seconds.

All of my spark plugs were completely under oil!  :-/

I agree with the other posts, however mine was simply old plugs causing the problems,, the plugs in the right hand bank were a git to undo and looked to be honest like the original Vx ones from day one,, not to sure why they were not changed but certainly cured the rough running,,

Hope this helps :y
