Hi all on my way home this morning picking the gf up i was going down the motorway and a orange light came on on the dash board.I think its the engine manament light it stayed on a good 4 5 mins till it was safe to pull over. When i did i opened the bonnet and all look as it should be can anyone no wot this can be.I did have all the breather pipes off about 2 weeks back can it have something to do with that

Have you done a paperclip test to see if any error codes are stored in ECU?
-
Ok well i looked at that and tryed it and i dont really understand how it works. The flashes went 2 then 1 then 2 then pause the 3,2,3 tryed counting all of them and got up 2 about 140 odd flashes so i must be doing it wrong any help or tips

OK, the 1,2 = 12. Which should repeat 3 times, ie 1,2 small pause 1,2 small pause 1,2
Then a longer pause, then next code flashed out

look at the video on my guide, should give you the idea :y
-
Right well i did that and i got code 31 what does that mean.I found one that said 31 means no RPM but thats for the v6 and mines only the baby 2.0l 8v
-
Was that the only code except the 12. Or where there others after the 31?
The cycle loops back round to 12 when all codes flashed out, so keep looking until you see the 12 again.
-
yeh it did go back to 12
-
i`ll try it again just incase lol
-
Right i did it again and its doing the same thing again
-
So only codes are 12 and 31?
What did this orange light look like?
Any other symptoms, eg poor perfomance?
-
looks like a weird camra its under the handbreak light.well i thought the car fealt abit shakky but the gf said it all seamed fine to her. When doing the paper clip test on the 8v engine does it need to be running
Got code 13 what does this mean
-
hi to another miggy owner in the south west try to read the codes again but you have to watch the light the codes run round in a cycle
-
if im right its a montronic ecu
code 12 start of test
code 13 is oxegen sensor no change in voltage/open circuit check wiring no breaks etc
code 31 rpm crankshaft sensor
if it was this the engine would be in limp mode
im sure someone more knowing will coment soon
-
thanks prr i`ll try and look at the sencer wires today on my break
-
Best to do the test with the engine running where possible as this eliminates the 31...
-
Ok mate thanks for that i`ll try it that way too
-
This happened to me. I simply had not reconnected one of the electrical connectors firmly enough when i re-attached the plennum after cleaning breathers... :)
-
Right all well i got the old miggy up on the ramps and when i was under there a white wire that comes from the lambda sensor to a 13mm bolt to the gearbox casing was lose very lose.I have done the bolt back up after giving it abit of aclean and did the paper clip test after and its still showing code 13 so do you guys think that the lamba sensor has gone.If it has gone will it still be fine to drive for the next 2/3 weeks till i get payed dont want the thing breaking down on me
-
Well 2night on the way home i went up the motorway and did the same speed as i did yesterday when the orange light came on and nothing so i hope iv sorted this but i did the paper clip test and its still saying code 13
-
after you cleaned and tightend the bolt and driven it has the light gone out
i know on some models you need 20ish or so clean starts for the fault to clear from the memory not sure if yours is one of them
as for runing it if it is faulty you may find that the fuel mixture may be to rich or to weak as this alters the fuel mixing whilst driving i had this go on mine sometime ago and i ran mine for 2-3 days and had no problem but as for a few weeks i dont know keep us posted
-
Hi prr yes the light has gone out
-
I'd play a 'wait and see' if light comes back on. If it doesn't, do paperclip check in a week or so, and see whats there :)
Worth doing a paperclip test every couple of weeks, eg when you check oil/coolant etc - you may find potentially pending problems before you get stuck on a hard shoulder somewhere :y
-
Thanks TB i will do that :y
