I had a similar situation couple of years back.
It was suggested that the heater matrix/rad was flushed out.

In the engine bay take off both heater pipes & connect your garden hose to one of the metal pipes coming from the heater through the bulkhead.

Hold the hose on firmly while someone turns on the hose. Another idea is to have another length of hose attached to the other pipe to carry the flushed water away from the engine bay.

The heater matrix may be sludged up or partly blocked as mine was.A few minutes flushing through worked wonders.

Don't forget to re-fill system using 50 - 50 mix.

Good luck :y :y

just to add to BA`s answer, its also an idea to reverse flush, in other words do one pipe then the other, if the heater is still not getting hot then you can fill the matrix with kettle de-scaler through a pipe from the bulkhead but you want to leave it for quite a while, then flush thoroughly with a hose, have done this with some success in the past, anything is better than taking the matrix out ;).

I had similar problem with my old Omega, First time I did it heater worked very well for 2 days and then back to cold.
I had to flush/reverse flush mine about 4 times before it finally was a permanent cure.
