Title: Automatic air conditioning and fan behaviour
Post by: chartz on 04 October 2008, 17:41:09
Hello,

My beloved car is a 2.5 TD CD Omega.

A simple question which should lead to a simple answer I guess :

When the AC is switched on, my three electric fans (intercooler and main radiator aux fans)  always run, at full speed.

Otherwise, when AC is off, they keep silent.

Is this normal ? Have you ever noticed this on your Omegas ?

If not, what is wrong ?

Funny that. I seem to recall (but I may be wrong) that the fans weren't always running before.
So the three fans are always spinning, since the AC is always running too. Alright then.

Thanks.

With aircon on certainly the 2 fans on condensor should be running.  On both mine the other fan (radiator) kicks in when temp reaches 97-98ºC

OK, aircon it is.

Has anybody here got a TD ?
The intercooler has a fan fitted, and it is running too—that would then be the third one !
There is no engine electric cooling fan, but there's a viscous fan clutch—a purely mechanical device.

2.5 TD has a viscous fan which will always run (not to fast until its hot in the engine bay).

The two on the front side of the rad area are aircon/cooling fans and always run when the aircon is on as the condenser gets hot!
