Hi everyone, I have only just found this forum and it seems to be full of info. and helpful people.
Can anyone advise me re my 2001 2.2 CDX petrol auto.
The EML comes on occasionally when starting.
It is usually ok first thing but if I drive a few miles, stop for a while the light comes on when I start again.
Restarting (up to a couple of times) seems to clear the light, it never comes on whilst driving.
I have seen a lot of posts re the cam sensor, could it be this?
I only drive about 5000 miles a year, most of that local.
Thanks

It could be a number of things. Cam sensors are a bit weak on 2.2. However, do not change parts for sake of it (too easy to introduce new problems), so get the codes read first.
If ever you get up my way (Northamptonshire), I can do this if nobody nearer can read them.

Being a newer 2.2, and assuming it is an auto; can't you do the trick of "start ignition whilst holding the brake and accelerator pedals down simultaneously" in the same way I can on my 3.2?
If this works the orange "spanner" light should flash successively. 4 times and then into a cycle of error codes that the car has stored in its memory. What you'll get, after the inital 4 flashes, is 10 flashes; that means a "0" then another sequence for the next number and so on. Each code has 4 figures, and I think they all start with a "0". There will be a delay between each code and then the cycle will loop.

I may be wrong, but it does on my 3.2 of a similar age. Are they both FBW (Fly By Wire)?

Only on the 2.6/3.2 :)

No known way of reading 2.2 (petrol or diesel) codes without code reader.

I tried the brake / accelerator test after reading some of the other posts and confirm it does not work on the 2.2.
I'm fairly PC literate and was thinking of getting hold of an ODB reader on EBay, they claim you can read a whole range of diagnostic info and they are cheaper than a visit to the local VMD.
Has anyone used one? They seem to be a bit too cheap from about £22.
Thanks

Cheapo tech2? Sort of works, but flakey. If you don't have genuine serial port, it will be trouble.
