Title: EML light driving me maaaad!!
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 05 October 2008, 12:44:15
Hi,

My EML light has been coming on intermittantly on my 2000 2.5V6 CDX.  I did the paperclip test and got the following codes.

135:- Telltale (checklight) voltage low.
87  :- AC cutoff relay voltage low.
52  :- Telltale (checklight) voltage high.

On an earlier post I was advised to check the AC relay, but I'm not sure how to!  :-[  so I gave it a tap in case it was stuck..... but no change! >:(

Also my interior lights have recently stopped working, although the bulbs and fuses are fine and the courtesy lights work.

The other thing is that my windscreen washers have also recently become feeble and take longer to squirt.  Now this may be a blockage which I need to check, but I'm wondering if the pump isn't getting enough voltage???

Could it all be connected or is it coincidence??

I'm puzzled and hope you guys can shed some light? ::)

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Not 100% but I'd change the EML bulb itself and see if the checklight codes disappear.

Yep, change it and hopefully all will be well again.  Don't have a scoob with AC code I'm afraid.

87 relates to teh AC cutoff switch on ther AC pipe work.

It worth checking this for damage to the connector/corrosion of the pins etc. It located on the aircon pipes in front of the engine where the pipe comes from the condenser, it drops down to a low point and then returns back up again, the motronic switch (as its reffered) its located on the bottom of this trombone type shape.

Is your car a facelift shape??

If so, the windscreen washers are an easy fix, they get all gummed up with gunk, usually congealed washing-up liquid.

with the bonnet open, down between the radiator and the front bumper (iirc) is the resevoir for the washer fluid, in the middle there should be a small 'pump' on top with an electrical connection. Twist out the whole pump assembly anticlockwise, about a quarter of a turn (might be a bit stiff)....now gushes out 7.5l of washer fluid all over your shoes....

....with the pump still connected there is a rubber filter/bung thing on the end, pull this off and give it a good wash under the tap and replace. If you want to make doubly sure it's all gonna work, get the hose in the washer resevoir and give it a blast out then put all back together. Give it a test, might need a couple of attempts.

Step 3 - I need to get a life  :y

And let that be a lesson not to use water in screenwash - keep some screenwash in there, stops that horrible white slim from forming...

Aye that seems to be a bit of an issue, wonder if it's becuase they're heated as well? they often give it a clean out on VX service. ALDI are sometimes doing some apple and some lemon flavour stuff for a squid which works a treat.
