So I took off the plenum etc today after etting it cool down overnight to get at the oil cooler plate and ECU temp sensor and this is what I found:

What does everyone think? It was dry when I got in there but then it could have all evapurated off the V area.
That brown stuff looks like a mix of rust and alu corrosion and comes off like a paste.
Any ideas? Is my motor fubar?

thats pink coolant residue, whats left when coolant has evaperated off as you say, difficult to see exactly where its coming from, but looks the same as mine did, oil cooler cover plate. coolant bridge is easy enough so may as well while your there, and stat housing simple job in theory, in practice, cab be a pig to get off, pipe siezes and the bastuard bolt.

Does look damp in there. Reseal stat and ccoler plate, and replace dowty washers on inlet bridge.

so no need for a new plate? just the sealant and washers?
do you have pn for the washers by any chance its hard enough finding the right part in english let alone in my very poor german! ;D ;D ;D

If the actual plate is ok can I get away with just resealing it plus all the oil pipe washers etc. I am getting rid of the car and I dont want to be spending a fortune on it...
