Post by: Andy the Scumballer on 11 October 2008, 14:19:54
Afternoon!

Does anyone know if there is a decent write up about this upgrade anywhere including info on software problems?

thanks

apparently you only need the inlet cams (same as vectra gsi) wwhich produces 192 but it'll be slightly less on the omega (bout 180 bhp)
just have it remapped after, becareful of the timing though when swapping as it'll run rough at low revs

Did the cam upgrade on mine about 3 months ago with a full set of 4 cams from a 3.0 thanks to Jamescdxv6.Difference is quite noticeable and car has alot more get up and go and will cruise at ...mph with out much effort.
Do agree with the bit about rough idling,as mine doesn,t seem to tick over smoothly until up to temperature(but may be another minor issue).
Would say a worth while upgrade but suggest you do it at the same time as a belt/tensioner replacement as all needs stripping out and you are reducing your work in the long run. When I did mine I also replaced all the cam seals.
Good luck with it

from the 3.0 cams (inlets) you will gain 18/20 bhp ! standard the 2.5 pushes out 169 bhp iirc so a worthwhile upgrade ! a few other small mods like the 3.0 lower manifold the black part. Chip and exhaust you will easy get 210 bhp  :y :y

i will be fitting 4 g cams in my mv6 soon so will see if any advantage !!  :y

Can anyone comment on garage hours for cam swap and timing belt change??

Took me about 2 hours to strip engine down and remove the cams couple of days ago...cambelt change is about 2 hours but includes at least some if not all of the work involved in stripping down the engine for the cams...so whats left is just reverse which would be a bit quicker I would imagine and some timing up etc...3-4 hours?

............That sounds about right.
Courtenay do a modified one (enlarged chambers) specifically for the 2.5. which is what I use.
Got my cams from Mark ('P' reg Elite if memory serves?) on this forum.
They work very nicely too!

Good luck with the conversion.

Matthew

Got some 3.0 cams here and a 3.0 lower inlet manifold...if you want them then pm me :)

Will take a pic of the car I have stripped down and cams missing...not too difficult to do, just time consuming removing all the bolts lol
