Title: V6 fitted with Crank sensor from a SAAB??!!
Post by: Varche on 16 October 2008, 16:31:47
My day was going so well until...

I thought I would get a spare crank sensor (see my other thread)

The part on mine is definitely Bosch 0261210. That isn't either of the recognised V6 part numbers.
2.5V6 Petrol Earlier Models  90492006
2.5V6 Petrol Later Models    90492061

A search on EBay came up with this S/H item

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAAB-9000-CS-CD-CRANK-POSITION-SENSOR-0261210_W0QQitemZ320308625674QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320308625674&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Well imagine my surprise.  :o At what point in the cars life did it get this?

It was one owner from new VX when we bought it and until I found OOF it was only ever in VX dealers for work. However OOfers with good memories will remember that despite being a Network Q car when we got it it had had bulbs e.g. EML taken out of the dash. So much for paying a bit more to buy an original car . I wonder what else there is lurking?

Now ever since I joined the forum I have been convinced that the car is "gutless". It can pull a caravan but has no acceleration. Could this crank sensor be the reason?

I have cleaned it up as it was pretty manky looking at the end and thankfully the car still runs.

How do I go about please getting the right one for the car or should I not bother?

The ever ready to be amazed varche

Don't expect the part to be any different.

Do expect it to be invariably more expensive!

If you look at the plastic mouldings on many parts you will find SAAB stamped on them. All part of GM, some SAABs use the Vectra floor pan I believe.

I haven't got an issue with the badging of parts per se, but I was hoping that someone might be able to confirm or otherwise that the crank sensor is the correct one for the car and advise on the correct GM replacement part.

Is Bosch GM part no 0261210 the same as one of the two GM 90492006  or 90492061 ? Is my late 97 car a later engine?

I think the only difference in the two GM parts are the plugs on the end, one is male the other female i had to trim the outer casing off one to make it fit my early V6.
