Title: 2.6 V6 cambelt timing.
Post by: tri6t on 28 October 2008, 17:36:28
Just done the cambelt on my 2.6 V6, but unlike the last one I did on a 2.5, the lower adjuster is now fixed. Any ideas how to get the timing on cams 3 & 4 correct?  I assume the upper adjuster still does 1 & 2.

The lower one, if not adjustable, will automatically set bank 3 and 4 to the right position. If you want to be 100% sure, put the gauge between the pulley's to check :y

i had this on my 3.2 and james put my mind to rest. It can not be wrong provided you have the correct belt/ kit and you get it located on the correct teeth. I thought i would struggle to get the belt on to toothed wheels locked in a tensioned position but it just popped on and the tension was about right at that point before i had even got the belt onto cam wheels 1 and 2 which are tensioned by the upper adjustable guide wheel in the normal way. Basically, 3 and 4 cant be wrong so no need for a lower adjuster. I measured mine with a locking kit and it was cock on before i took the old belt off and was cock on when the new one was fitted. 1and 2 are all you need to worry about, plus the tensioner of course. Hth.

Thanks for the info - with one less bit to adjust and a lot less plumbing to remove first (2.5 was a bugger)  it's getting too easy! I suspect there will be something else to bite me in the proverbial further down the line.....
