Well i am no expert...

Firstly this could just be a general posts about brakes.

All Omegas expect pre 1997 2.0s have the same disc size, 298mm? Pads are the same cross the range.

How do you mean metal clip? there is one above the pad, which is spring loaded, as the caliper comes down it helps hold the pad secure.

Shocks? Personally i would get access to trade club card and get them from a Vx dealer.

Get the brake pads from your local dealer, and at the same time replace the discs.

Shocks again from your dealer.

Only fit genuine Vx brake pads and discs.

My personal opinion is don't buy discs or pads from Halfords, brakes is one area NOT to penny pinch. They are they only things stopping a 2 ton 80 mph tank of a car.

Cost from Vx for a set of discs and pads is around £80.

I noticed a huge difference of the pattern ones they replaced.

IIRC Halfrauds do sell Ferodo pads, which are reasonable quality, in addition to own brand. Main thing is to take anything a muppet in there tells you with a pinch of salt. :-X

pre 97 2.0l ones are 286mm and use a pad with large metal hook.  All other ones are 296mm, and use pads with small spring clips
