Title: Can someone point me as to where the SAI pump is?
Post by: garbage456 on 03 November 2008, 14:08:03
got a squealing noise coming from the car, sometimes last about 30 seconds sometimes about 10 minutes.
According to some excellent help on here the most probable is the SAI part but i need to know exactly where it is please,
Any pics will help

10 minutes is not the SAI pump!  30 seconds is more likely.

When does the noise occur? immediately on start up?  Could be a belt  (for example cam or aux belt)

SAI pupm is on the passenger side inner wing somewhere.  Someone more knoledgable than me will tell you where it is.

well it has done every time immediately on start up for about 2 weeks now, but today (when i wanted it to do it) it didnt happen

first week was about 30 seconds long, last week was about 10 minuites, today nothing.

sounds more like a belt/tensioner to me>  work on a process of elimination

open the bonnet next time you hear it.  if it is coming from the battery area then it is SAI pump: disconnect poer to it to confirm

if coming from the front of the engine then

1. take the aux belt of the tensioner make sure it is free of other pulleys and check if it cures it: if it does then likely the tensioner on the way out: spin it, check for rough bearing etc

2. failing that could be host of other stuff incl cam belt (when was it last changed)
