Title: Auto gearbox problem

Hi. ive seen a "W" reg 2.5 auto for sale on fleabay thats near me, the seller says its got a fault with the box,  its still drivable but gears have to be changed manually...any idea what the problem could be?

Possible low ATF. Probable selector switch crudded up. :)

cool, its got 2 1/2 days to go and its at £50!!! gona call him tomorrow to see if i can look at it... cheers   :)

Ask if all the selector indicator lights illuminate when the gearlever is pushed through the entire range. If so, sure sign of selector switch breaked. Usually rectify with a stripdown of switch and a good clean of the contacts with electrical switch spray. Piece of p**s to do :y

Not a bad motor. If you get at right price and the box is stuffed, still cheap to whack another in off one of the breakers here :)
