took my car for mot failed said back box is hanging off anybody tell me what part that is and can i get one some where or does anybody have one?thanks
-
its the rear box on your exhaust, although I don't believe the technical MOT term is 'hanging off'.. ::)
You will most likely need to replace the whole system cat back (3 sections on a V6) - certainly worth checking as getting the back box off won't be easy.
You options will be
- genuine GM with TC c. 300 quid for full system
- stainless - guess c. 400
- cheapo eternal (ebay) etc 130 quid or so. (won't sound as good, fit as well or last as long, but a lot cheaper.)
Most on here would recommend the GM unit but there have been several experiences recently that suggest the latest ones are not much different to the eternal type.

New to the forum - so hi. My V6 3.2 had an MOT advisory that the joint at the rear box was suspect and it finally gave up the ghost today. Rang the Vauxhall dealer in Shrewsbury and they said there was no TC discount on the exhaust - each bit was about £117 + VAT and I guess I need the back box and the 2 centre boxes :'( However, they did offer to do it at £104 + VAT apiece.
Have asked my local garage to see what they can do for me!

Either your local dealer isn't part of teh Trade Club ... not all are ... or, more likely, he/she's talking out of their back side. :y :y :y

why not try James here http://www.omegamechanic.co.uk/
the original VX exhaust systems are not as good as the original fit. At least mine is not a quiet as the one that fell off! I really don't know about the quality of the ones that James gets but my guess is that they are reasonable otherwise he wouldn't fit them
price is pretty good as well

Sorry, that's just the prices listed - you'd buy just what you need I expect. TC only do parts so fitting will cost depending on where you get it done ;)
-
have you number for tc or web page thanks
-
You need to get a Trade Club card, or get someone with one to buy the bits for you. I don't remember the various ways to get a TC card but I'm sure someone will post for you.

anyway thank you i need a result before friday

I have to disagree, I recently bought a genuine GM system for a customer, and if I'm honest, the eternalcar one was put together better.
VX exhausts are now cheap crap really, compared to what they used to be.
If you want a good option, i'd go stainless, otherwise, Eternal stuff is fine- and it sounds no different at all, than the "new" type of GM system.. :y
