Title: 97 omega 2.5v6 whirring noise on right rear side
Post by: truescot on 06 November 2008, 21:18:35
Hi as mentioned in the subject i have a 97 omega 2.5v6 estate, today it developed a whirring noise on right rear side under acceleration above 2500 revs, the noise gets louder as the revs build like a fan with a missing bearing starting up, to me it sounds like the whirring of a fuel pump but there is no problem with fuel delivery to the engine, anyone got any ideas??

That was a thought for me for about 15 seconds but its not that kind of noise, plus no noise going round corners, on braking etc, purely when accelerating over 2500 revs, its also fine under constant throttle (which would kinda make sense with a fuel pump)

had a similar thing on mine a couple of weeks ago after doing a rather rapid turn in the road ::) - i thought it sounded like fuel pump as well and guessed it could have had a surge of fuel and maybe got a bit of an air-lock which might cause the noise? :-/
