Title: servicing in the midlands area
Post by: mattbreaker on 06 November 2008, 16:34:23
Hey folks, got a 99 V6 elite, done 60k, Bought it last weekend and was wondering (seeing as the git didn't have any service hirstory) if any of you guys would know of where I can go to get my mig checked out without having to pay insane vauxhall service charges or using a standard garage that would take the p1ss ordering replacement parts.

I want a general look over, the previous owner claimed to have changed the cam belt 2 months ago but I'm a bit crap with the innards of cars and wouldn't know my arse from my elbow, I also need a new headlight washer as one is missing.

I am Redditch based and I don't want to go to far from home,

I have local trusted garages but thought I'd ask you folks first.

I look forward to your replies.

Ta muchly,

Matt.

I am used to looking after bikes myself but these days I don't have the time or the space or the tools!

I bought my mig to get me through the winter once feb comes I'll be moving it on and getting back on the bike.

So basically I can't service the thing myself at the moment so any advice is welcomed,

Cheers folks.

A 99 with 60k? No service history? Bit fishy if you ask me!

Cambelts are every 4 years or 40k, i would check the car over for wear and tear that could show a higher millage

For a good value mobile mechanic then JamesV6CDX on here is the chap to speak to.

If you want to use someone local then try Unicar in Green Lane, Studley, he's an honest chap and won't rip you off and will use GM parts if you ask him to (Well Cresser is only a mile up the road!!!!).

Cheers

Not really worth getting him to change a cambelt, then ;D

Just to make it clear, due to totally overwhelming demand, I wouldn't be able to take this on until after the new year :y

I think I've used unicar before for previous cars I've had, Will give them a buzz next week.

To answer a previous point, 99 60k no history, I know its as dodgy as hell, but as far as I'm concerned this car could have done 200k but it rides superb and apart from the obvious body scratches here and there its a great car, immaculate inside no evidence of tampering on the clocks. Glancing and having a rummage around the engine, there are no leaks or worn pipes, no gunk around the oil compartments,

I don't doubt that this car is as dodgy as hell, but so far its doing fine by me.

Thanks for your help guys,

Matt.

Hi matt, I have and do use a company called the Independant Vauxhall Centre. Its based in Nuneaton & has all the equipment needed for diagnostics/servicing/mot's. Not sure if its too far from you.
The number if you want it is 02476 356346.
They have done alot of work on cars of mine in the past but now i use them for the stuff i am not so confident to have a go at, or have the tools to do jobs myself.
They use mostly genune parts but also source stuff direct such as cam belt kits & wishbones.
I have known of them since about 1996.
Would not hurt to give them a call if you want advice on things.
