Title: cruise control problem
Post by: smokeypat on 05 July 2008, 09:32:48
I have a 1998 omega estate 2.0 cdxi. I recentley changed the brake servo and my cruise control stopped working. I've checked the fuses and brake and clutch switches, but without success, can anyone help?  :(

welcome to oof, no experience with cruise myself but the experienced guys will be along in a bit no doubt.
Sure you know by now the cruise box is on left side of engine bay, just follow the second cable on the throttle inlet round to left wheel arch area, any chance its been knocked or disconnected by accident? As the servo is above that area. Cant help much more than that i am afraid.

work on a process of elimnation here:

electrical:  I'd check the pin readouts on the multi plug to the cruise model: somewhere in the past, posted these on the forum.  i'll try to find them.  this should confirm whether the cruise module is getting the right signals to work: if it is not, culprits could include the brake switch or the cruise stalk or a fuse.

Then check the cruise cable ia connected including in the cruise module (the yellow strap in the unit can break)

If you do the above and get nowhere, I'd suspect the cruise actuator (on the ground that the only other thing to go wrong is the speed sensor feed but if that happens you'll loose the speedo and ABS.

If you need a cruise module - try here or egay there's is usually a few around

I'd check you haven't dislodged cable to cruise unit

All cables are connected and electrical wires, I've also checked the fuse.

do check the cable in the top of the actuator.  twist the cable sheath off the top of the unit and check that the cable is still connected to the yellow strip inside.  These strips can snap....

Failing that, I'd check the electrics as per this post http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1170492943/15

you may find that one of the switches or cables on the cruise stalk has failed.
