Title: 2.5td engine problem
Post by: eugene on 14 November 2008, 12:22:29
My 2.5td omega has lost all power, idling very badly, we suspected a tooth jumped on the timing chain or a broken valve. We removed the cylinder head and found that there is a small circle on the top of each piston where the valve must have been touching, no damage but just a circle where it has just touched. Is this normal? Anyone know how to set the timing on the 2.5td?

Pretty certain that the pistons have indentations for valves on that engine - I'll try to photo the one in my garage later.

Is/has the engine management light come on?

Thanks for the'PM'
You say that the turbo has seized - then you'll obviously have to get that done first before delving further, and be sure to check the oil supply to it.
The turbo could be the root cause of all your problems.
