Can I replace the original vauxhall rear brake pads with the metal shims with new pads without those shims as they seem only available with genuine vauxhall ones[ u][/u]

I replaced mine with Delphi pads with no additional shims - the worn pads I took out were GM pads and they didn't have any shims so I would guess that you don't need them. Just my experience :)

yes mate you can no problems ! just pop a smear of copper grease on rear of pads before fitting ! :y

ABS trade card and use genuine :y
-
Do you mean the shims that fit under the fixing pins?
-
I mean the metal plates that are glued on to the brake pad
