well fully fixed misfiring problems with new parts off markey mark (Top fella indeed :y) Just done paperclip test out of curiosity and its come up with codes 73 & 74. Mass air flow meter voltage low AND high :o How does this work?? Surely it cant be both?? :-/
Oh and whilst putting scuttle back on we noticed the material padding underneath was full to the brim of water. Maybe that was dripping onto coil pack as it had been in there a long time cos when we squeezed some out it was brown :-?

petrol mafs rarely fail unless you've fitted a chav filter, where the oil contaminates it.
Usual cause is an airleak somewhere - air intake, vac leak, egr etc...
Often get a false maf fault when you get a 19...
-
just been for a decent drive and tested again with engine turned off, Codes 73,74 and 19. But no 31. Should I not get a 31 with engine off??? :-/
Oh and no chav filter. ;D :y

as said earlier, the crank sensor can through an erroneous maf fault. Replace crank sensor (its buggered).
If you have a 19, you won't get the 31

Sure there is a guide in maintenence guide.
Ultimate symptom is having your car delivered to garage on AA truck

is it that bad? :'(
-
Yep! If the crank sensor gives out the car will to, best to get it fixed before it comes to that.

Depends where you are. If you're outside your house, not too bad. If you're 5 miles outside Dijon, well, thats 'inconvenient' :-[

Check the maint guide - the connector can either be more oval or more square.

When the crank sensor failed on my 2.5 I cut the connector off and took it to the dealer to make sure I got the correct replacement.
It is impossible to route the replacement as the factory fitted one, not a problem just keep the cable from anything hot or cold.

Not entirely true ::) - I spent hours, and I mean hours, doing it. It was only a few months after than I learnt there was a better way ;D
-
hi TB, when u say in how to, to check the plug thats the bit on the top part of the engine isnt it? :y
-
yes
-
Only one crank sensor for v6 in general...however 2 different types of connector as per normal Vaux thinking...an oval connector and a square one...make sure you get the same connector...
It plugs in down at the bottom of the engine passengers side towards the back by the oil filter...and runs up to a plug the other end which you can find near the back of the plenum

just for the sake of our personal archive: can you post pictures of this part, showing where it's mounted on the various models? A mechanic showed me today my PMS sensor where i saw nothing more than an oil ball...
TIA! :y
