Hi guys and gals,
I have briefly broached the subject of my cars poor performance here in the past but I am still having problems. I hope I can run it by you again and see if anyone can help me.
The problem is that the car seems to drive very sluggishly. I would say at about 85-90% the power of what I would expect. My last 2.2DTI performed much better than my current one. You really need to drive it hard to get it up to speed. My fuel consumption is way down too according to the computer. I am only averaging 33 MPG whereas I used to get 44MPG on my last car. Every now and again, especially when driving up long hills, the emissions light pops on and I get a sudden drop in power. If I keep driving it will go off again after about 20 seconds and power is restored (Albeit still at its reduced level).
I bought an EML327 from Ebay and found no codes stored. This morning I hooked the laptop up and drove until I got the emissions EML to pop on and I tried reading the codes on the spot. Still no codes showing up.
The car was recently serviced, with all filters changed. I also changed the MAF sensor but this did not make any difference. I suspect it may be some sort of turbo issue but I can't tell. I can't find any cracked pipes or tubes in the engine either.
I know most people here are petrol guru's but any assistance you can give me would be appreciated!
Thanks for reading.
Regards,
Richard

Think you're right - turbo sounds goosed.

EGR valve. My Old Y reg estate was doing the same and i change the valve and it then took off, its all to do with the vac to and from the turbo. The valve is about £100 from vauxhall TC :y

Mmmm interesting. The EGR sounds like it could be the cause. I presume it is something I can fit myself?
Did you also have the low MPG with yours?

I had low MPG and as for power it was like my turbo had been taking out. The EGR valve is a nice and easy job to do :y

Cheers mate,
I will try and source one tomorrow and then have a go changing it. If this works I owe you a drink cos it's been annoying me for months!

I think there are two EGR's on the diesels. Is the one below the one that you changed?

I think that this is the one that is attached to the turbo and there is another plastic EGR on the right hand side of the engine at the back.
I just want to get the right one!
Thanks,
Richard

This is the other one that I was talking about.

Can you tell me which one you changed?

Hi richard this is the one i changed and as you look at the engine it's down to your left on the back of the rad and by what you have said youe car is doing this is the one.
The other one you have put a pic up of has just gone on my fathers 2.2DTI and his EML is on all the time till he hits over 2000 rpm and then it goes out and then when it drops down past 2000 rpm it comes back on again.

I just got a quote from an Irish dealer for 285 euro plus VAT. Ouch! I think I will have to get one from the UK.

Just a tad high :o Are you vauxhall TC.

Irish TC prices are a fair bit vhigher than UK. I presume cos they were fixed before euro took off. self levellers £64 0r €105.

Hi HNO3GOH,
I am finally getting around to ordering a valve but when I looked behind the radiator on the left hand side, I see two valves that look almost exactly the same, and a third bigger one. Can you have a look at yours for me and tell me which one of these you changed?
Thanks,
Richard

Just to bring this up again and annoy you all! :-)
I am trying to find out which part to replace. The EGR vacuum system is below from the TIS.

So, HNO3GOH seeing as you fixed this problem before can you tell me which part you replaced? You said that it was the EGR valve just behind the radiator on the left hand side, which would be part 6 or 7 I reckon. There are two very similiar valves here. Can you remember which one, or what part number even?
Thanks again for your help!

Richard

Sorry to bring this old thread back up again, but I have fixed the problem and I always like to post the solutions back up online in case it helps anyone in the future.
Anyway, after messing around with the vacuum system, EGR valves and MAF sensors to no avail, I took the car to a local Diesel Injection Specialist. He had a good look at it for me and diagnosed faulty injectors. I have had the nozzles replaced and now the car is driving beautifully as it should do. No more sluggish performance and no more emissions light popping on going up hills! It’s like a new car and now I can finally enjoy driving it. I took it to work this morning for the first time since it was fixed and got 48MPG according to the computer, compared to the 32MPG I was getting before.
Happy days!

Richard
