Title: Blasted Alarm/Immobilser - How can I disable it?
Post by: Greg2041 on 19 November 2008, 21:45:04
As the 3rd owner from new and with heaps of dealer service history, it would appear that from new, the alarm has been an ongoing problem.

It keeps activating and is so, so sensitive.  If the main dealer's can't sort it, can you suggest how I can deactivate it or better still, fix it?

Pse note it is a 1998 model if that helps.

Cheers

Greg

Which alarm - horn or powersounder.

Handy to know why its going off, but if you haven't the equipment, start with bonnet switch - unplug it.

Love to know too but I don't think it is going to happen somehow.

Silly question but where is the bonnet switch?  Do I just unplug it to deactivate the alarm?

Thanks

Greg

Lift bonnet, over towards the right hand side, near the back of the engine bay, is a plinger that the bonnet presses against when shut. Unplug it underneath. Doing so will prove whether or no you alarm is going off because of the bonnet switch - a common fault - if it still goes off..... then it's somat else. But you've ticked off one possible reason for the alarm to trigger.

If it's not your bonnet switch (i.e. your alarm keeps going off with it unplugged) take the alarm powersounder our or unplug it - it's under the o/s scuttle cover - there's a how to guide in the maintenance section - my alarm kept going off and I took it out and all quiet now - if all else fails get a tech II diagnosis :y
