Title: How do you disconnect wiring connectors?
Post by: Jimmy Jerms on 21 November 2008, 18:46:00
Does anyone have any pictures of the various types of wiring connectors and how to disconnect the.

There seems to be so many types in inaccessible places that you struggle to get them apart.

I have recently replaced the cam belt on my V6 and in taking off the black trumpet bit at the front (excuse the technical jargon) i wrecked the small vacuum solenoid because I could no see how the connector came off. (cost me £40).  :'(

Surely I'm not the only one who struggles with these.

there's about three main ones...

2square ones and on later ones oval ones too!

the first square one has a little metal wire with two square loops on the sides...squeeze the two loops into the sides of the connector

the 2nd square connector uses a straight piece of wire bent over the edges of the connector, there's a piece of straight wire on the long side which has to be pushed inwards towards the connector! (should have a recess to expose the piece of wire if this makes sense)

the oval one usually just has a clip, to undo you lift the "loop" away from the connector

hope this helps
