Title: Tech Codes: P1612, P0173, P0170

Hi All

More questions I am afraid!  :D

I had my engine management light pop on a week ago and had a Tech II read 3 codes:

P1612-000 Immobiliser no signal or not present
P0173-009 Fuel correction
P0170-009 Fuel correction

I had the codes removed to see if the problem came back, and yes the light is now back on!

Before I take back to my garage, can anyone assist with pointing the garage guys in the right direction rather than having to look at all possible fuel pipes etc?

Also, since then my alarm seems to go off all the time (I have asked about this in another post!) and wondered if there may be something to help from the 1st code?

Not had the codes re-checked yet, but thats my next task, maybe with a little help from you guys beforehand  :y

P0170 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1)
P0173 Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 2)

Is the setup displaying any unusual symptoms when the fault light is on.....if its still running without issue then the immobiliser fault may well be a read herring or an old code.

As for the fuel trim.....this sudgests something wrong which idealy requires live data readings using Tech2 (or another good quality tool) to determine exactly what.

Its a reasonable assumption that its a single item and not say O2 sensors because its occuring on both banks at the same time.

Interestingly, a fellow member has suffered something similar recently and this has been traced to a possible tired MAF sensor.

Gonna sound really stupid now though  :P

What is a MAF sensor? .... and..... I know you said a Tech 2 would determine exactly what the problem is but have I not had the codes read with one of these by my garage?

On a plus side I am having no problems on the setup display so maybe the immobiliser reading is indeed a red herring or old code and my alarm problem is a completely different issue.

Dennis - you can read codes for free on your engine, see a post in Maintnence Guides titled Paperclip test & Pedal Trick.

MAF measures volume of air entering engine, and is used by ECU to control fueling.

Tech2 can properly diagnose this by cehecking live data readings, but only if the operater knows what he's doing.  Sadly, that rules out most of them  :'(
