Hi,
I’ve noticed the multitude of posts and excellent advice on here ref cleaning out the oil breathers – great info guys. Thought I’d add my recent experiences to the collective..!!
Recently noticed the odd spot of oil left on the drive and after investigation identified the source of the leak as the back of the Cam Cover gasket. Happened to spot the posts on here ref the oil breathers and decided to check mine before changing the gasket. Took about two hours to remove and clean them with the upper hoses to the air intake and throttle body being the worse (almost completely blocked with mayo..!!). Now just need to change the gasket….looks to be a simple job on the 2.2 though.
Figure it’s probably down to the fact that my miggy now has a weekly round trip of 550 miles to Preston at ‘legal’ motorway speeds that finally caused it to spring a leak – greater crankcase pressure and all that. Great car to drive on the motorway though…can get almost 40mpg out of him...!!!!
If you haven’t done so already – check those breathers….you may save yourself a job…!!!
Cheers :y

Frequent oil changes help, i.e. no more than 3000 miles.

I clean my breathers and do a paperclip test every fortnight :y

....and I thought I was being good changing the oil at half the recommended service interval i.e 10k...!!! Just out of interest what's the best oil to use...?
