I've seen several topics about putting 3,0 cams to a 2,5 engine to get some extra power. Does anyone have any idea will this work also with 3,2 cams in a 2,6 engine?
-
Yes...it will also work with 3.0 cams into a 2.6 engine
-
would a set of Pipper cams do much for a 3.0 V6? im considering changing myn!
-
Thanks for the info. Any idea which will give more, putting 3,0 or 3,2 cams? Or are they the same?
-
3.0 or 3.2 will be fine theyre the same "G Cams" you dont really need all 4x as the Vectra GSi only uses the Inlet and uses standard A cams for the outlet

I thought the X25XE needed all four?

the x25xe has a cams in all four only need to fit the g cams iirc its the c25xe you need to fit all four ! :y

This suggests the opposite. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152565319
At the end of the day, though, you want to end up with A cams for exhaust and G cams for inlet. Best to source a complete set of 3.0 / 3.2 cams and use the "A" cams if you don't already have them. I have only done a cam change on one X25XE, but I'm pretty sure it had E and F cams to start with. :-/

You've just done the cam cover gaskets, haven't you? Would have been a good opportunity/excuse/diversion. (delete as applicable). ;)

Other way round....X25XE needs all four C25XE needs just two

ok got me info wrong then ! but the x25 has a cams as standard :-/

Every 2.5 I have done has had F and E cams....including both of mine and the pile of spare cams I have in the garage and not the A and G cams used in the 3.0 :y

Was an emergency before I fried the coil packs - I don't have any cam tools.
Still burning oil though (valve stem seals) :(

For the 2.5 the stock 3.0 cams give better lift and duration than 'race' 2.5 cams from Piper

Typical I cant remember which way it goes but some people just change the exhaust or inlet cams and leave the other ones stock
But I havent seen anyone just selling a pair of inlets etc

The confusion comes about due to the C25XE (as fitted to the Cavalier and Calibra although some late Calibras got the X25XE from about 1997) having the A cams fitted.....like I said though, the X25XE does not.
As for which one gives the most benefit...read the Engine theory and you will soon sus it out (i.e. the inlet!) :y

I have a set of good 3.0 cams here (inlet and exhaust cams) which are going spare...if anyone wants them then PM me :)
Approx +20BHP plus (I believe) more torque, although not sure on the torque increase...3.0 engine has about 60Nm more torque than the 2.5 so possibly a 30Nm increase in torque through 3.0 cams??

When putting 3,0/3,2 cams to a 2,5/2,6 engine, is there any need to re-map the ECU or anything else or is it just to put in the new cams? Are the valves the same all over the range?
Reason for this topic is that I'll have to take the cams off due to the stem seal -issue which is known for these 2,6 engines.
Has anyone had this valve stem seal issue on a 3,2 or is 2,6 different in some way? All I have read or heard have been on 2,6 engines.
-
I dont believe a re-map is needed for cam swap. The electronic wizardry should measure and adjust for mixture/knock etc.
Though I did go for a M-Tek 'power' chip any way
I doubt it would hurt to disconnect the battery overnight so the ECU can re-learn again from the 3.0 cams.
-
Is there anywhere to go 'cam-wise' to add to the 3.2?
-
I think you'd have to go for after market items.
Cant think of a V6 Vauxhall/GM unit that is bigger than the 3.2
The Holden commodres (Omega floorpan) use small V8s
Depends how much wedge you want to spend................
