Title: 'Hazy' headlamp......how to clean ?
Post by: kevpuk on 22 November 2008, 16:24:27
Guys, one of the headlights (passenger side) is 'hazy'/'cloudy' - sun bleached ? - kinda looks like it has 'yellowed' a little ? (Facelift, by the way)

I am pretty sure I read some tips on cleaning this up.....anyone point me in the right direction ?

Hi

Assuming you mean the inside of the lense, the best way is to get the lense off and clean it, I used Mer on mine and they havent misted or steamed up yet in nearly 3 years,

If your not sure how to get the lense off, best way is to get a hot hairdryer (NOT heat gun for stripping paint!!) and soften the bonding material until you can undo the clups and pull it off. when refitting also soften the bonding material to get a good seal.

cheers  :y

hmmmm........so an electric polisher and a bit of g3 huh?  - can you do the windscreen like that too?? cos mine is sh**ty......loads of wee pitted marks like tiny 'stone chips', as if it needs a good polishing to make it clearer.

Don't try polishinging chrome wheels with a dremel.., took me all day to do one and it still needed more work lol.  And I ran out of polishing heads (u need 'em by the dozen)

on though surfaces like windscreen you need to work for many days..

for that reason 2000 grid or even 1500 grid is required to do the job

quickly..of which you can use also on headlamps :y

for chrome wheels you need smaller heads ..

I've done the brasso route - add a bit of elbow grease and a drastic improvement.  To do it properly, then fine wet n dry plus polish as mine aren't sparkling - just many times better than they were.  At least i can see at night now..

One good thing - i managed to reduce my "odd sock" drawer by 2... [smiley=laugh.gif]
