Title: suspension lowering?
Post by: beemerdevil on 17 November 2008, 21:50:06
whats the recomended 'lowering' in mm's ? and is it acheived by just changing all 4 springs or is more involved?? - i want to get this thing lower, harder / stiffer to hold road better and STOP the 'roll' through corners - i like my mig but it doesnt yet come up to the standard of my beemer i just sold - the mig is like driving a sofa on jelly wheels compared to the beemer - i wanna keep the mig - it looks and drives smooth enough but not 'tight' enough.................so i need you guys expert advice please !!!!!!Many TIA -  :y :y :y :y :y

Standard MV6 suspension (Shocks and springs) will help a lot and lower it by 15mm if you're after a more subtle change, but an excellent driving experience.

The shocks work out about 200 quid for the set of 4 and about 150 for the springs

I got my Eibach Pro Lit springs from LMF Vauxhall for about £140. That was for the V6 vectra but the price was the same for the Omega. Not sure if the Omega was a 40mm drop or not though. The Pro Kit is progressive so it isnt a hard ride

DOne the rear about a 30mm to 40mm drop

Fronts will be done either before or at a WIM trip

May lift the rear with 5mm spacers

MV6 springs and shocks is the way I went on my Elite 3.2. I love them and would recommend buying his 2nd hand if they're in good nick.

You'll save a fortune and the car will look lower, but still stock. Personally I think 30 - 40mm is too much lower and the arches begin to look spread out too much if you know what I mean.

Mine is a little too low, but I have ideas to raise few mm, just need to measure a seat so I can get a spacer made

As said before.

Bilstein OEM shocks from www.balancemotorsport.co.uk

And then add some suitable springs, 30mm drop is my recommendation as standard shock (including the Bilstein OEM ones), will not support a drop greater than this. The irmscher springs were ideal for this.

This will give much improved handling but wont be so harsh as to knock your fillings out!

I have to agree, compared to standard MV6 set up, the irmscher springs totally transform the handling of the car

I can sell you out the standard MV6 shocks (all 4) with the PI -40mm springs fitted and will give you the old standard MV6 springs if you want to play about...?
This isn't the place to talk money so on the forsale section or PM  ;)

Yep that one full set of springs and dampers and one full set of springs, brand new delivered for less than £300.

Took some finding but they are about.

Have to say makes a lot of difference to the MV6  :)

Oh and if anyone is willing to pay £300 for a set of springs from Irmscher, then they can have mine for £275!!  ;D

How much do they lower the car by? Would I need to factor in the cost of a visit to wheels-inmotion to get the tracking and camber reset?

I am asking as a serious proposition
