some 6 mnths ago i had oil in the plug wells and a friend of mine tried to put it right (including changing the cam belt) but my 2.0 petrol omega has started 'missing' under loadand the rear 2 plug wells have oil in them.if i want to do this myself (and im a complete amatuer)should i attept it?.i believe its the cam seals?..or rocker cover seal?...same thing?...ive cleaned out the 2 breather hoses on the top of the engine and unblocked the small one on the throttle thingy(with a fine piece of wire and a can of carb cleaner also done the throttle valve thing with carb cleaner too. any help appreciated, thanks..yea i kno im a numpty...

were genuine gaskets used last time around?

Its not a difficult job on a 2.0 but consensus is you need to use GM seals and not overtorqued the camcover bolts.

No numps here, we are all learning, gotta start somewhere. Give it a go, much easier than the v6 when al sorts of stuff has to come off first. As said
genuine gaskits and torque the bolts correctly. I "presume" its 8nm same as the v engine?
Might be worth a look in maintenance section for the clean breathers guide just to be double belt and braces, if you havent already. Hth

Yes, need black goo. Used to be loctite 598 but they superceded it with another number, which i cant remember...maybe ask the Halfords lad for the equivalent. Unless someone on here knows?
Only use black goo round the cam cut outs/half moons at either end, just round the detailed areas in the corners. Dont use it the whole way round as you will seal what is a pressure release valve in effect. If the crank case pressure cant escape from the cover, the next easiest place for it to blow is the crank pulley seal. And that job IS a pita.
Maybe while your in Halfords get yourself a small torque wrench, if you cant borrow one. :-)
Ps if you need to change the plugs, i would, they are cheapest at vx, they also do four pot rubbers for the spark plug caps, or a motor factors for a complete set of leads, vx aint cheap for leads iirc, if it still runs rough, then you or on to the dis pac. But first step is the cam cover and keeping the oil out of the wells/in the engine.
Oh, Probably need some o rings for the cam cover bolt and plug holes too. Hth.

I'm doing a cambelt change over there (for a VXON member ::) ) - Just thinking I could swing over and pop these gaskets/leads on, if gravy can get them - it can't take too long... :y
