Hi all
My light switch doesnt light up but when i removed the side panel there is a small length of wiring with a bulb hanging down which i assume should be plugged in somewhere to illuminate the switch but i cant see where it plugs in ... it does light up when i put the lights on though :-/.... any tips or a how to on removing the switch so i can plug this bulb back in. I did look in the maintenance section but couldnt see anything.
Thanks

That bulb with wiring will be for the illuminated air vent, the O on the vent (in white) lights up on some models, if yours is a CD model or better then it should have the correct vent for that light to fit into.

the bulb for the light switch is a half turn plastic base bulb on the rear of the switch unit, sme bulbs as used on the back of the main instrument panel. remove the whole switch to gain access to the bulb on the rear. :y

Yes it is a CD and now you mention it my vent doesnt light up .... i'll go look and see if i can plug it in somewhere :y

With my light switches in the Carlton's, the Senator and my first miggy, you just had to pull at the whole housing, obviously pulling on the knob itself, and the unit came out complete. :D ;)
However, as I haven't had to do this in a facelift just wait for someone to confirm this before you pull the switch apart!! ;D ;)

you dont need to take the switch apart, just remove the whole housing from the dash, as lizzie says it pulls out, can be made easier with the side panel removed and you can use a blunt object to lever it outwards.

Mmm yes i better not try and rip it out :)..... it must be for the vent but i just cant see any place for it to plug in ..... i wish i could put up a pic but im at work and cant :( ..... the bottom half of the light switch with the dimmer and headlight height lights up but the bit at the top with the side lights and dip beam doesnt :-/

oh dear, thats the internal bulb that lights that section up, and that means definately taking the switch apart, the bulb is soldered on the board, I had to desolder a few and resolder new ones on. but to me it was worth it.
ill take a pic of a spare vent I have and let you see where the light should fit, but by the sounds of things your vent may not have the hole for it, as they generally dont fall out. it could have been replaced at one point for the other type, or just not fitted at the factory.
give me 15 mins to get the pic uploaded. :y

thats where it "should" go
back of the light switch, the grey bulb is for the bottom section of the switch unit. (dimmer etc)

Thanks again :y

Make sure those pins are straight before you put the light switch back in.
For succesful removal....two butter knives work best :y
