I had a call this afternoon regarding the job I am going for. I am told that there is good and bad news.
Good news:
They think I am a really good fit for the job. I impressed them on both interviews with my confidence, my ability to communicate, my attitude and pretty much everything. Everyone I met in the company really "likes" me, and thinks I am "the person" for the job. Even the stuffy old barstard director who sat in my first interview, said he "liked" me.
In my technical assessment in London, apparently I put up a stirling performance. I really impressed their network managers with my knowledge of networking and Active Directory, and my all round IT knowledge. They have also fed back, to say I'd be a perfect fit for the role.
Bad news:
When they held their first interviews, there were five candidates (me included). Only one of those candidates (me!) was picked to go to Technical assessment.
Some senior director up above, has decided that they cannot make a job offer based purely upon the results of one person. Therefore, he has insisted that they re-interview, and pick one more candidate to be "technically assessed" in London. They will them compare this candidate, and me, and pick the best one.
Realistically it may be two weeks until this happens.
So in summary, all is not lost.
I have gained a lot of comfort from the fact that they have all said I am a brilliant candidate. To know that a company are considering me so seriously for a job of this magnitude, and consider me capable to take it on, is quite a good feeling.
Biggest problem is, I REALLY want this job, and it's perfect for me in terms of location, terms, etc. So I will still be gutted if I don't get it - but at least if I don't I know I came bloody close, compared to most applicants, all of whom were considerably older than myself, apparently ;D
Fingers crossed :-/

Seems a strange way to go about things :-/
I'm sure you'll get it :y
Had a chat with my new boss yesterday & she's "over the moon" that I've joined the team, does boost your confidence :)
-
They can't say fairer than that James. :y
-
Good jobs are hard to come by these day James and this sort of selection process seems quite common now. Keep going and I'm sure you'll get it mate. :y

So there benchmarking you and covering there backsides....something they should have done a few weeks ago, ie had another candidate to you, even as a token gesture...
I think your (still) going to be fine.... :y
-
Well done!
remember it was you picked 1st, so will still be favorite unless they absolutley blow you out the water
Continued good luck :y
-
I had a similar experience to this once, they had to do the whole recruitment process again to provide a 'challange' to score me against..... I'd already been acting up in the role for 4 months! ::) Anyway... I got it! ;D
So well done for getting to this stage James, just keep your head and i'm sure it'll all be fine.
Well Done mate! :y
-
Well done - always encouraging to get good feedback :y
Have they considered the possibility this might not be the only job you have applied for and that they may end up with no candidates at all if they delay too long? Depending on your confidence you could drop them a hint..
-
Sounds like you did really well james. It is nice to hear feed back like you got, most places just say nope you never got the job now sod off.
-
I'm pleased for you getting as far as you have.
I Hope it all works out in the end.
When we want something theirs always a glitch, Best of luck to you.
-
see now i'm thinking you should have said "why waste time looking for another candidate when you've already confirmed i'm perfect for the job? wont you regret it if you end up taking someone else on and they turn out to be sh*t??"
congrats on the good news but i bet its pissed you off that they tell you you're perfect for the job but want to get a fresh candidate to reject just to be sure
they say they cant select you based on the "results of one person" but i thought they were giving you the job based on your own ability to do the job, not just on your own ability "compared to the other candidates"

I'm sure you've done everything necessary to leave them in no doubt about this.

Well, good news that you made the grade. What a stupid way to go about hiring someone! I'd make damn sure you go to as many interviews as possible over the next 2 weeks, make sure the agency knows you're actively pushing for more interviews and not putting your life on hold while they waste 2 weeks. You never know, something better might come along.
It'd serve them right if you got snapped up by someone else in the meanwhile. >:(

absolutely, it will show that you are in demand, if you do get offered something else as well it may put you in a better bargaining position in either job, plus its a confidence boost as well.....bit like having 2 women chasing after you :D
-
Late answer sorry..
My senses tell me the director is messing up things..In a company that size, employment procedures are generally well written and planned.Something wrong here I feel..The reason what he gives dont satisfy me..He has other things in the mind but not shared together other staff..
So be careful..Stay in touch and follow closely..
Hope you will get the job :y
-
Sounds like a done-deal. They are just going through the motions for company policy.

That would be the ideal situation :y
I had the pleasure of doing nearly the same a few years back.....
Went to work for a company as an IT contractor.....i knew the first week was a trial week......but was gobsmacked when the 1st week was up got told by the IT manager that ok weeks up......were taking on another IT contractor next week to compare, therefore you dont need to come in next week (which means unpaid for a contractor)......Agency rang me the following wednesday saying can you go back in immediately, they want you......I told the agency to stuff it ;D
However agency kept phoning me back, so after insisting an increase in hourly rate and insisting i couldnt start back until the monday (even tho i didnt have anything on) I went back on the Monday.
But that gave me great pleasure in basically saying....."P1$$ me about and I'll do the same to you" ;D :y
Could be a good basis do to the same (ie increase in salary....as you've been offered another job (small white lie maybe ;) )
Depends how brave you feel and how much you want this job :y

The other angle to this is that the agency will be hungry for their commission too. They will be just as eager as you to get the deal done now they've sniffed the possibility of a result so if you give them the impression that you're going hell for leather to get another offer they'll be pressing the company to pull their finger out or lose you.

Yes... the agency told me this! They basically told the company "If you think he's so good, why the heck are you going through the farce of more interviews, when you already have someone who fits the role!"
But never mind, time will tell. I still feel quite optomistic that I might get it.
