i have an auto box 3 ltr v6....
will putting on an air filter be a good or bad thing?
i want the noise but dont want to hurt my car lol
-
Whatever you do... Don't use an oiled filter, it'll kill the MAF sensor!
TBH, there's little to be gained, performance wise, over a clean Genuine filter!
-
Apparently don't do anything for the performance, but do make it sound more grunty ;)
-
yeh i just want the grunt not botherd bout performance its fast enough lol...
i just dont want to damage anything...
iv heard il lose the kick down if i put one on aswell??
im thinking of one of those enclosed filters around 100 to 200 quids...

Lol, miss informed!
Just fit a panel filter if you wnat the noise....
-
is that the type that just fit in the origional filter box?
-
That,s the one :y
-
and drill some holes in the bottom of the air box for some noise :y
-
yeh kkool will doo that soon as....
i like grunt lol
might just have to put some vxr twin pipes on the back aswell... 8-)

Mine sounds wicked. :y
A previous owner fitted a panel filter and drilled the front of the airbox. They also did a "cold air injection" hose that goes down behind the bumper.
It's probably robbed me of 10 bhp - but it sounds like it's added 50! Specially nice when the plenum opens fully :y
-
ha ha ha i like noise but dunno bout losing 10 bhp tho that can be corrected...
i may upgrade engine parts later...
few issues need sorting first...
paint being one of them lol :y

Got to be careful with that mod. if you go through deep water and slurp up a load of water you could end up hydrolocking the engine :o :o :o

Up to you but I wouldn't bother... It just means you'll suck hot air into the engine and reduce the power :-X :-X :-X
If you want noise fit a vauxhall sports rear box... The people who came to the Thetford meet will tell you that it gives a nice growl :y :y

I am not sure about the Omega's but on the V6 vecs it gets extremely hot under the bonnet. The best mod for those was to pipe a new cold air feed into the OEM airbox and fit a decent panel filter. If money was not a problem one of the fully enclosed cone filters with a good sealed cold air feed would do the trick as well. It was only the cone filter that gave induction roar in the vec though.
The vecs are restricted with poor breathing though so any improvement on intake and exhaust usually gave better performance. I was under the impression that Omega's are much better blalnced on intake and exhaust though is that not so?
