Title: Broken Important Bit of Fob
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 09 December 2008, 11:14:20
During the lock fiasco yesterday I broke the sharp end of the key away from its 'yoke' section of the fob.  I still have the metal bit, the chip, and the main fob body.

So the question is, how easy is it to get the front 'yoke' section as a blank and cut, with the chip re-installed please? :-? :-?

From where, and how much please at the same time. :-* ;)

you can order that bit from Vauxhall with just your key number off the car pass, you would need to ring for a quote though.

There may be cheaper local alternatives, I know around here there isnt much, noone had the 'horseshow' bit with blank.

Thanks Rob, yes it does after looking at their Omega version key. :y :y

As I already have the chip, what happens after I have the key cut with the one they supply v. the one I have please? :-?

Depending on the locksmith, would it not be possible for the chip to be replaced with yours. :question Failing that it might need a chat with Tech 2 :(

If you take the chip out of the blank key and replace it with your existing immobiliser chip the system will be none the wiser and continue to work as normal

just swap the chips, would need tech2ing to get the new one to work.

..... yes it does after looking at their Omega version key. :y :y .......

Does the face lift use a different key from a PRE face lift? That key is different from my PRE face lift key, mine is like my Senator's were, in that it's cut into the face rather than the edge like that shown ......

Found one! ;)
Mine's like ........ this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CALIBRA-OMEGA-SIGNUM-SINTRA-VECTRA-ZAFIRA-KEY_W0QQitemZ190271547074QQihZ009QQcategoryZ10404QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262) ;)

Thanks Ben and Jimbob! :y :y

I rather thought that I could just swap the chip over, if I purchase a new sharp end.  So I think I will buy a new section I was made aware of earlier. ;)

Andy:  My key has the right hand edge cut out, with no. '105' stamped on it.  Your link will not open for me, but I seem to remember my old pre-facelift Elite had the same type key. ;) ;)

Just to echo what has already been said, my 99 pre facelift had a new '105' key from ebay and worked just fine. To the best of my knowledge the facelift had the same mechanical locking system, i.e. freewheeling locks
