Flushing is always a good idea, but if you can after getting your engine up to working tempature at the end of a day, open up sump plug, remove filter and leave dripping over night.
Next morning either flush to get any crud out, or just refil with new oil and repeat the exercise 3,000 miles later. 8-) 8-) ;)

Personally wouldn't use flush as it can disturb crud...... I would do an oil change then do another at 1000 miles if you are worried then do it every 3000.
As for a few hours... aslong as it has stopeed dripping you should be all done. :y

Hi mate, get the engine and oil right up to temp with a spirited run then jack the front up or drive up some ramps and drain the oil and let it drrain for at least an hour, remove the oil filter and replace with new filter, refit sump plug and refill with fresh vx semi synth and take it for a run, recheck levels then change again in 3,000 miles. No need to use flushing products. :y

Ok thanks guys ;D

i wouldnt use any sort of flushin agent unless your going to take sump off and clean the inside and pick up pipe !! ::)
-
Would it be worth it to clean all the breather pipes too at the same time :)

check plug wells for oil ! if there do cam cover gasket ! :y

Wouldn't recommend using flushing oil or agents - they usually dislodge some crud which will block/bung something up. Oil hot and drain till no drips - new filter & refill Vx 10w/40 semi synth. Change every 5k miles.

Ok thanks alot guys ;D :y

Some good info there :) and I'm another one who doesn't believe in flushing .... it has too much of a risk of dislodging crap that stays inside IMHO.
Anyhow ... this article on oils, including flushing .. may be of interest to some . :)

Just brought 5ltr of gm 10w 40 oil and a gm oil filter ;D ;D

Follow the general theme here .......
Flushing is, in itself, not a bad idea. The problem is that any crud can subsequently cause further nightmares due to a blocked strainer etc.
Best advice is to give the motor frequent oil changes, using Vx own-brand semi-synthetic. They've got a deal whereby you can get four 5L cans for around 34 quid. Ask at the stealers ..... !

a good friend of mine helped develop the v6 engine at Ellesmere Port and he advised me to flush my 3ltr every time i change the oil . according to him the oil pressure is regulated to 5 bar by the use of a small bore hole in the pump ...if this blocks it can cause the pressure to raise to 10 bar , meaning you spend all your time chasing leaks ::)
he actually showed me an old pump and pointed out the above mentioned bore ...it is very narrow and i imagine it could block quite easily ...
on the plus side , he said the best flush he's found was available in wilkinsons dept store , and cheap as chips :y
bear in mind guys this applies to the v6 , not sure on 4 pots

If you start a regime of flushing it regularly from a known clean state (from new / after a rebuild) that's fine, but flushing an engine of unknown history is bad news, IMHO, due to the volume of crud that could get dislodged in one go.
TBH, modern oils have good detergent additives, so, if the car is regularly serviced, an excessive amount of rubbish won't build up in the first place, and any that has, due to previous abuse, will dissipate more gradually.

I would do a regular oil change - no flush. Aim to do another change 1k later - sooner if the oil is getting dark. Then continue to keep an eye on it - you will find it takes longer to go dark.
On my 3L I'm heading towards regular 5k intervals - personally I think 3k is a bit excessive, depending on use (long vs short trips etc), but undoubtedly you should change it well before it goes black. That way you are flushing the crap out with the old oil regularly anyway. At ten quid or so a change it is well worthwhile maintenance.
In terms of what else to do, on your 2L I would give the idle control valve and throttle body a good clean and don't forget the nozzle under the throttle body. There is a great guide in the maintenance section which covers all this. :y
