Can somebody explain to me why these barsteward things will not come out >:( >:(. I am at my wits end. is there an easier explanantion of what I need to do. cannot even remove the top hose spring clip. any help much appreciated. To date I have removed plenum, fuel injector manifold and inlet manifold. Why are these vehicles double trouble when it comes to replacing the easiest things like thermostats.

Because it is an V6 Omega!! ::) ::) ::)........................and some prat in a design office once thought it was a good idea to make it that way! >:( >:(:D ;)
With the clips I use an adjustable wrench/water pump pliers to get hold of both sides . :y

ah, the bastuard bolt. I guess you have the stat visible, the pipe entering from the right is a push fit into the stat, with 2 seals set into the stat iirc. The tube itself is bolted to the block under it via a bracket (moulded to the tube) and is difficult to see, its a torx, and i right little bugger to get back in, it also holds other stuff on so have a good look at the order it bolts together before undoing. Also the pipe once unbolted usually sticks in the stat housing, but it will go. Twist, wiggle, pull, turn the pipe with the stat housing still bolted down to hold it still, again iirc. There is a seal under the stat to block as well.

and yes, mole grips for the clips, lockable or plier type or whatever you have. The clips on mine are a pig as they only have one finger or tab the other stops short at the right angle. Be atch. I have long handled right angle jaw pliers which i used for the hbv. Not ideal and they also bent in the jaws but did the job. Hth

I have 2 dents in my nsf wing trying to remove top hose (it was dark and I knelt on wing for leverage) :(

You don't need to remove the hose from the Transfer Pipe to get the Thermostat Housing off.
Undo the one bolt that holds the Powersteering Reservoir then move the reservoir out of the way. You can then see the "Barstool" bolt which isn't that hard when the reservoir is out of the way.
What I did was take off plenum etc so you can see and get at the thermostat. Undo the bolts to it. Put some mole grips onto the housing and wiggle it until it becomes loose from the Transfer Pipe. You won't be able to remove the thermostat housing until you have then undone the Barstool bolt and slide the transfer pipe slightly towards the wing. This will give you enough room to get out the Thermostat Housing and renew.

do i have to purchase the full housing with stat or can stat be purchased seperately. vx want 40 squids + vat, for complete housing. tia

Sure I had to get the housing with it. Dont forget the 2 o rings for transfer pipe

yes, in housing, i got mine from vx but i guess a motor factors would have one. No idea on quality vx v other.
Got a punto stat last week, in housing also, £11 from camberley auto factors, no idea if they have a branch near you but must be a factors near you somewhere. Yellow pages.

You need to buy the housing with stat fitted ..when I did mine I also bought a new transfer pipe and new bolts for stat to block and the ackward bolt..as Loo-knees advises it is easire with power steering resevoir moved out of the way.Pick a day when you are chilled out as it is a bit of a stressful job,but if I can do it,you should walk it.Best of luck.

I'll do it myself the second time ... I'll watch/learn the first time on this one ... too many horror stories .... I'm a great believer in employing the RIGHT expert .. and in this case IMHO young James may just fit that description ... :)

lmao...well my 2p is... it's alot easier with the engine out ;)
also it's quite a nice job if your swapping the cams because pulling the rear timing belt cover plate makes it alot easier to wriggle out.
i didnt find the barstool bolt too bad actually... i'm just thinking about swapping my stat for the cool running courtney one but cant decide which o-ring needs to go where *shrugs* there's three!

You guys forget .. it took me 2 days to do the breathers/cam covers on the old beast, and I had to do the passenger side one twice due to getting it wrong .. and thats a simple job !!!
I'm more than happy to pay for "lessons" ... :)

the passenger cam cover is a bit of a barstuard... i was wrestling with the cable try and getting mauled by plug leads at the same time as trying to get the cover in place! ..along with the rather stupid water pipe!

Good idea to wire tie the wire loom out of the way ;)
