Ah.....someone with experience of mercs :y
Look for leather, climate and a 5 speed auto (usually tiptronic on mercs)
A diesel is preferable.....but thats upto you....
The above makes them easier to sell on :y
Not that you would......but never ever buy a manual merc :y
Remember people that buy 2nd mercs want luxury.....having to change gear via a funny 3rd pedal is a no no ;D
-
;D ;D ;D
i'm on the hunt for an elite, not just settling for what i have!!
enter "elegance" in your search for a merc, i believe that's top end.. could be wrong
-
From what I've been reading, that model of Merc suffers from rust.
Especially behind the front wings, but, more importantly, the main
front crossmember can rot clean through.
The last proper Mercs were the old 190 and 200 series.
Everything more recent is no better, and in a lot of cases actually
worse, than any other modern car.
In my opinion, they trade on their brand image, which is now cheapened.
A lot of folk buy cars for Image, and, in my opinion, pay through the
nose for an equal or inferior product.
And yes, I still own a Merc, a 14 year old 190 owned for 12 years, but
I wouldn't even consider paying the premium charged for owning
one of the modern Mercs nowadays.

;D ;D ;D

you should have replied "if its for sale i'll take it but if you tell me its £400,000 i'll knock you out!"
-
That Merc's no good for you Steve - it's so big they can't even get a decent picture of it - so it'll never fit on your drive. ;)
-
second hand, not even worth £200k

Word of warning Mr Meldrew, these cars can be very lethal due to excessive corrosion on the lower crossmember, not visible unless you remove the underside plastic cover-THIS IS WHY THEY CAN PASS AN MOT- even though they are structurally unsafe.
Also the front upper spring cups corrode and can remove themselves from the car.
Plus, the front inner splash guards do not cover the full inside of the wings and these corrode badly.
Fortunately, I think the car you are looking at is silver? Best colour to avoid body corrosion.
If there are new wings fitted, ensure the headlights are secure as to remove the wing, you have to remove the headlights, and some clips are particularly fragile, especially the connection for the washer hose.
Plus, without leather, the car would be rather difficult to resell when you are finished.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but please check these areas very closely.
Sorry if anyone else has already advised you of these.
