im going to replace my tyres after crimbo
whats the best size i should have on my 17 inch wheels

at the moment i have got 245 / 45 r 17 on the front
and 255 / 40 r 17 on the rears

the proper size for them rims is 235/45r17 matey !! :y

The tyres on your car are the wrong size.
This is important because your speedometer is out, as is your odometer.
Standard size is 235x45x17.
By all means change your tyres, but do it properly and keep them within the tolerance on the dynamic rolling radius or get your car reprogrammed to match.
If you're asking for the correct tyre sizes to fit then anything that has a dynamic rolling radius the same as or +/- tolerance of 2.5% of the standard 235x45x17.
I have 235x35x19 on the front and 265x30x19 on the rear.
