And It's nothing to do with it being my birthday today.
I've just been and filled up with petrol. The Missus had a 5p per litre discount voucher from Tesco so, seeing as I work right next door, I decided to use it.
The point is, I've just spent £62.31 on petrol, including £3.15 discount. My first car, a Saab 96v4 cost me £50. So, I've spent almost 25% more than the cost of my first car just to fill the tank with petrol. >:( >:( >:(
And, you try to tell kids today and they wouldn't believe you. >:(

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You old fart.

I can remember when you could get a pint of Cider for 50p

I must be really young then. The cheapest I remember is £1/pint...that was on special student bum nights.
-
I can remember buying a round (5 pints) - and still having change out of £1 for the pinball machine... :o
And don't anyone suggest that was the last round I bought... ::)

£1 for 4 pints of scrumpy
10p Sapce Invaders
25p for a half pint post happy hour

I think possibly only AA will top this. When I was about 16, I used to get £1 pocket money off my dad. For that I could get 10 pints of double diamond and a fish supper. :o
-
Pah!! 42 years old - you're still a young'n!! ;D

This got me thinking (unusual for a Friday afternoon). My first car did about the same fuel consumption as my MV6. The MV6 has just under double the engine capacity, is 2.8 times as powerful, does 0-60 about 5 seconds quicker and has a top speed 51 MPH faster.
IIRC a tank of petrol was about 20 quid and got me 300 miles back then. 7p a mile near as makes no odds.
Now a tank of petrol is about 65 quid and gets me 400 miles, if I'm very lucky. 16p per mile :o
There's progress for you.

My Dad always used to get a few of those in for him and his mates on cup final day. The curtains would be drawn to stop the sunlight shining on the tv screen and there would be the smell of spilled beer where they were so difficult to pour.
I'm coming over all nostalgic again. :'(

Hmmm.....am I the only one who used to get pissed on cider and nutcracker? ;D
-
Emma bought me 2 seasons of "Life On Mars" on DVD recently. I've been glued to the telly.

1994 - Madisons, Nottingham, Thursday Night......we used to drink snake bite and black for 70p and buy 4 pints at a time....
Following one night in there I slept in a grit bin because it was raining.

i can remember a packet of 10 red band was 99p, a group of us used to chip in and buy a packet.
Thankfully i gave up smoking when they hit £3.50 for 20, now the cheapest i see is £5 for 20 :o :o :o
my local used to do light split for 1.25 or the youngsters fave was diamond white IIRC it was less than a pound a bottle :y
diamond white and two dogs mixed together, we used to call it electric lemonade and get slaughtered on it ;D ;D ;D

It's all good and well... but a round weekend trip to Paris with good old BA (when their livery included the Union Jack and not the silly art-nouvo tails) was £400. No Easyjet or Ryanair in those days, and definitely no £10 getaways...
And mobile phones were 35p per minute....
And a fully-loaded PC was £1,500..
And some years ago I paid over a £1,000 for a 32" TV that weighed 100Kg.... the difficult bit was to get rid of it last year.
So I guess it's not all bad news then...

My then girlfriend got me and my mates drinking Tequila and Diamond White slammers when I was at university :o
The perfect drink for when it's 10:30 in the evening and you're not quite as drunk as you thought / hoped you'd be. Down in one, because if you realised how foul it tasted before you'd swallowed it the only way it was going was up.
30 seconds later you're a gibbering wreck. Fantastic. :y
