Hi all,
since ive had my timing bit fitted by a mechanic, the eng mngt light randomly comes on and then off.
I done a paper clip test and get fault code 17 Knock Signal Circuit 2
The mechanic told me when he was connecting the HT leads they were all the same lenght so he wasnt too sure where each one goes...odd...
The engine does seem to be running fine, how can i resolve this issue? Where is this sensor located im assuming he hasnt connected it properly/damaged the sensor.
I also get 31 as engine is off (2.5 v6) and 12 as sequence start.
Any ideas fellas?

To me that would appear to be a trapped cable in the cam belt cover casing; had the same myself when I managed to trap a cable when doing the cam cover gaskets ::) ::) ::)
I'd go back to the mechanic and give him the problem, telling what it could be! ;) ;)

Cheers sounds about right, problem is hes just a fella who works for my brother, so not "guarnteed" as such...Will see in the new year what he says...How annoying...Should of just went to a garage cost about the same!

On second thoughts where is the sensor located? Going to see if i can sort it out...

The one I am thinking of is situated on the right (passenger) bank, fed by a cable (that you can easily trap) from the cable tray there, towards the front just behind the cam belt / end of cam cover / casings. ;) ;)

To further help, this picture shows the ICV arrowed; well the knock sensor you are looking for and its possibly offending cable is on this side, just forward (at the front) of the ICV. ;) You will have to remove the plenium to see it and to identify the problem! ;)

How annoying, its as is in the picture, not trapped or anything...
Disconnected it, had a quick look at the plug all looks ok, reconnected it...Meh!
Ooo i better go pick up the girlie from work!

By the way the cable I am thinking of, and for that matter the one Loo Knee is highlighting, are of course black, and I know I had difficulty in identifying that it was actually trapped in amongst the black plastic of the covers! ::) ::) ::)
If the weather is like what it is here, drab and overcast, I would use a strong light to shine on that part of the engine to see it clearly. Do not attempt to pull it out however or you could make the situation worse with a snapped cable!! :o :o
EDIT: Just seen your latest post; have you looked for the cable I was referring to?? :-? :-?
The plenum does have to be removed and note my latest comments on trying to see a trapped BLACK cable! ::) ::) ;) ;)

If the wire to the left of the engine (drivers side thats arrowed) with your car being a 2.5 (a shorter plenum than a 3.0) you wouldn't need to remove the plenum to get the Cambelt Cover off, try even loosening the bolts that hold the cover to get the wire out, that is if it is caught obviously :)
