Hi all, started my 2.5 v6 up tonight and a loud banging/knocking was coming from the pulley area on the front of the engine (i think), it increases with the revs, there are no lights on the dash and nothing on the computer, the car drives normally and everything works as it should, just wondered if anyone has any idea what it could be...
-
Check out the bottom pulley.....its a two part item with a rubber section joining them together
-
I'll have a look, can't tell where the noise is coming from, the top or the bottom but there is a black plastic cover on the front of the engine at the top and you can feel the knocking there, I was worried it might be the cams...
-
Strip the cambelt cover off, check everything...
-
I'll have a good snoop round tomorrow, thanks for the suggestions...
happy new year to everyone on oof...
-
Eeeekkkk.....sounds like cambelt tensioners.....when were they last changed?
-
I've no idea if they have been changed, I've only had the car a short time and there isn't any receipts to say they have been done so i would presume they haven't, is it very bad...:-(
-
I wouldn't run the car again until you get the cover off.
-
ok cheers, I'll check it in the morning....

and checked EVERYTHING. If the tensioner's slipped/buggered then could be goodbye top end. Very best of luck mate.

If you need the cam locking/timing kit 30mm spanner and DVD (which is a fantastic help). let me know. i'm over by the airport and can probably help you out over the next week. PM me if you want to.
Not sure how familar you are with the V6 but a cam timing tool is essential to get it set up spot on
