Title: Driveshaft problem...
Post by: GmasterT on 26 December 2008, 16:13:31
Yuletide greetings guys!  :)

Heading over to my parents today and the cv joint on the diff end on the n/s rear driveshaft has decided to die  :-[

How different (if at all) is the 3.2 to other engined 'megas on theses and shoud the 'cup' that sits in the diff end (the bit with the abs spigot on) be part of the d/shaft or left in the diff? If not then how do I get it out or does it just lever out?

Hope to get some pics up later, all the fun happens at christmas!  :-?

Never seen one of those go!

They lever out and I understand they are the same on all models!

Ah... perhaps its long life of ploice work and shorter life of me drifting it plus a welded diff, which then leaves a catch 22, did the welded diff cause a premature fail? But then, it was still driveable home beacuse of that! (one wheel drive  ::) )

I wonder if they are all the same then that my carlton could possibley be a doner then, although a fair way away at the moment! Looks like a search on tomorrow morning to find some one who has one in stock and not at a million pounds!

Pics didnt seem to save so will redo tomorrow, cheers Mark  :y

Second hand should be very cheap as they are not sought after....new might be hard to source for the same reasons

I'd say that the welded diff killed it...you've got the diff trying to turn the wheel at one speed and the tyre allowing to run at another.  Somethings going to give somewhere and it'll be the driveshaft.

I don't think the Plod usage was the issue, unless its been offroaded!

I agree the welder would have killed it, but its worth it when it works! Good to find these weak points, never had an issue on the old 200sx with them though the vaux ones seem 'less'

Bit stuck now as need to find a drive shaft to get back home and work for monday!

Anoyed that it didnt happen at home, I could have seen if the carlton one fitted, may yet resort to that plan as no where seems to be open today  :(

Any chance I could blag up a wanted post please chaps?  ;D

Sorted, Mv6copcar came to the rescue, also got some lowering springs from him too  ;D

They fit fine (well the n/s one I had time to do did) but are slightly different in boot design and are thicker?! Came off an ex cop W reg, very odd!
