New one on me. The car has started making a whining noise on cold start which goes away after a minute or so. Not tried to locate it precisely yet but seems to be from the front of the engine bay. Is this likely to be the air injection pump? If so, any way of confirming this and any advice on a cure please. Can it be repaired or will it need to be changed. Finally any idea of cost please?

sounds like secondary air injection, its not needed, just unplug it! :y

Thanks Tunnie. Will give it a try.

It's to help with emissions on cold engine I think which is why it switches off after a few mins. Mine is really noisy too. Nothing to worry about. I think I read on here some time ago it is due to the pump body leaking. I seem to a remember a 'how to repair it guide' somewhere. Anyone remember?

I will be the air injection pump.
It will either be leaking like above, or the bearings will be shot - and thus the horried noise!
Unplug that, and then unplug the vac pipe to the air injection valve (and cap the end) to stop it opening! :y

Aye, I found this on another forum:

Not sure if the SAI pump is the same, or similar on a miggy, but if so I wouldn't be surprised if the same failure is going on.

Definately SAI. My previous Elite started doing it.
Best course of action is just to unplug it - there's no harm in that at all. It's more of an annoyance, than a fault :y

Hahaha!
I tried unplugging the vac pipe to the valve today when I first started the car... Its amazing how much quieter the exhaust is when its unplugged! All the banging and poping stopped, and the overall loudness was less! (Does have a full powerflow exhaust fitted though! and the cats have gone walkies ::) :-X!)
