There will be play in it...  ..resulting in imprecise/vague steering

Cant exactley put my finger on it but car seems to wander a wee bit.
Would car have to be jacked up or on ground to feel play in idler?

Hi mikey.s, i have just had my car on axle stands and i found the steering idler to be broken. If you pull the wheel from side to side and look at the idler you will see if its broken. Mine is broken at the bottom (link between idler and link arm). Found a new idler on e-bay for £24+ £6.50 p+p. Just to note, does the steering feel as if the front wheels are fighting between themselves? and do you have to compensate the steering pull?. if so then thats the symptoms that i have. :)

Mine failed on the offside one, you can have a peep through the engine bay while someone wiggles the steering wheel, I could see it riding up alarmingly, loads of play in it.

Was a bit of a sod to change but feels a lot tighter since done.
