does anybody know how to get the flower shaped locking wheel nuts off without the key and hopefully without damaging the wheel?
bought the facelift cdx and two of the 4 wheels have locking wheel nuts but i havnt found the key anywhere in the car yet
thanks
-
either hammer a socket on or drill or chiesel ::)
-
lol i thought about chiseling of drilling but they're hardened on the ends arnt they (if i was at work it wouldnt be so bad because i could find a scrap solid carbide drill :P)
-

also what about that ring round the outside that spins round? you think it'll just snap if i hammer something between it and the other bit of the locking nut?
think i could get a socket on then thats all :y

Had this problem only last week but luckily have six miggys in family with all locking wheel nuts. I brought the car and even looked to see if had locking nuts fitted but the plastic cover caps fooled me till i wanted to remove a wheel, i even asked the guy does it have them fitted. Anyway tried my lock nut remover from my mv6 it fitted fairly well, but i removed my set first just in case i damaged it removing others, all removed and ok thank god
-
i dont have the key for the flower sort though, i have that squigly one that goes in and out in semi circles about 8 times
-
well i can only suggest phoning main dealer and they can make you the locking wheel nut that came from that car from when left factory if still same ones fitted now?? OR pop down to your local scrap yard and they might have one that might just fit
-
bit hard to pop down the local scrappy with the locked on wheel nut as the car isnt running but somebodys wanting the wheels off it thats all

Once, with my Senator, I fabricated a locking wheel nut tool using a paint scrapper handle, a round, solid, piece of metal fixed to the shaft, and steel rod of the diameter to fit the nut, in the pattern of the 3 holes, drilled into it. 8-) 8-) :y
It worked a treat, and went with the car when I px'd for my first miggy. ;) ;)
Worth doing if you can source the right materials. 8-)

Ive got locking wheel nuts on both my migs, welcome to try them if you want too!

Agree, just got to watch the alloys though :-/
-
The spinning ring will just shear off with a screwdriver & hammer and then you can force a socket on, it will split but will do the job fairly quickly and won't damage the alloy. :y

ok i'll try that tomorrow and see if i manage to split a socket :P lol
thanks

Although there are many keys for the nut we (when i was at vauxhall) has a box full of keys and we would mostly 90 percent of the time find a match!
If you Go down your local Dealer and ask them nicely they( MIGHT???)
help! :)
-
theres a problem though.. i can get to the dealer but the car cant lol
-
And knowing our local vx dealer he would probably have a better chance at getting the Titanic to sail again!!
-
Ah right in that case! :-/
Its a big risk aint it when drilling but if its the only way then be carefull :)

lol be careful?
wish me luck you mean, not many drills really touch hardened wheel bolts and i dont have any big solid carbide drills (and yes i know what your thinking...how did i get any solid carbide drills...for free :P)

vx dealers are about as much use as a chocolate teapot! they do have a useful computer :P
shows how all the bits go together lol!

From your description of 'flower shaped' I think you've got what I'd call the 'cake cutter' locking bolts ie the later locking bolts that Vauxhall would sell you now. If so, you find that the spinning ring is a lot more substantial than the ring on the early lock bolt with the 3 holes in the face. The spinning ring on my early bolts split a piece of **** with a slim chisel, I doubt the later type would be as easy to split. :(
You could always act numb and ask at your local ATS/etc as they'll likely have a set of lock bolt removers + a windy gun.

Machine Mart do a similar set

lol i have both an early set of locking wheel nuts and later (iv got the key for im guessing the later ones which is like a wavey line in the middle of a chunk of bolt, the ones on the 2.6 are like a actual flower head shape that say a 19mm socket could fit round but it has the outer ring to stop you using just a socket if that makes sense)
anyway andy wouldnt those removal tools need you to have already removed the spinning loop?
thanks

ATS managed to remove an early type complete with ring with their set. I removed the ring from the other 3 before they attacked them though.

im suprised at that tbh, that ring just spins nicely round on mine..minus some bearings to help it run smoother than silk :P
i'll try t*atting it as it were with a screwdriver or chisel between the outer ring and inner wheel bolt and see what it does :P
thanks-im off to bed now

Cant be as bad as Peugeot My mate just took his 206 to a garage for new tires. They lost his locking wheel nut tool. Told him to ring peugeot for a new one and they would pay. Fair enough he thought. Upon ringing peugeot he gets told that each tool is different and that he would need the 4 digit code off his original one. He is finding that part QUITE difficult

If ithey are the later Vauxhall type as Andy says, you will probably end up having to drill them :(
