My Omega had to be "recovered" back home as when wife tried to use car and it wouldn't start. :(
Symptoms
EML flashing when trying to start (static when key just in ignition)
Engine turns over but won't fire
Battery good
Told chappie in recovery truck that I thought it may be crank sensor. With a knowing look he said lets see (turns out he has had a V6 vectra, so is familiar with the engine.)
He pulls a plug lead to check for spark, which we get. Then says can't be the crank sensor if it was you wouldn't get a spark.
Have just checked the codes and the only one I get is 19 crank sensor, no other codes logged.
Is my hunch correct that I need a new crank sensor, or is he right. :-/

Had the same problem awhile back, changed the crank sensor no problems since. Not a difficult job to do. Have a look in the maintenance section :y

EML flashing continuously is IMMOBILISOR error. Either try a spare key, or check your existing key CAREFULLY inside ... the tiny little transponder chip may have moved out of its housing if you have dropped/knocked your keys.
I had this on the old beast .. quickly cured with a drop of superglue.
It seems the transponder distance/position is pretty critical to the reciever bit in the lock housing
If the EML is steady then the code 19 points to the crank sensor

Yup, flashing light is an indication of an immobiliser code...so as said, check the transponder

Had a problem with immobiliser on my Tigra, When you put key in ign and turned it to first position it started to flash continuosly.
EML on Omega only starts flashing when you try to start the engine, (pos otherwise its static. Tried the spare key no joy.
think I need to change the crank sensor and see if that cures it.
does the EML flash a code when trying to start, or does it just flash to indicate there is something wrong?
-
Mark, if it is immobiliser related, and both keys won't start the car, where/what else do I need to check ?

Yes! Your imobiliser circuit is fubar'd :y

Yes well this is not a Tigra and has a different ECU setup (not even the same make!) so dont expect the same behaviour :y
As said many times, start with the easy and cheap stuff......and dont do willy nilly part changes as you simply add more unknowns (just because its a new part does NOt guarantee it will work ok) :y
So....check the transponder in the key is not loose....and come adrift

If neither key will start the car you'd be better off hooking up a tech 2 or similar to interrogate the immobiliser and find out why it isn't letting the car start. Like TB says, immobiliser systems are all different, even in the same manufacturer, our Astras at work will run for 5 seconds before cutting out if no immobiliser signal is received.
At least tech 2 will give definite answer

Mark even, not TB!

Roland .. please check your avatar .. its rather large .....
site limits are 110 * 110 . :)
yours is 288 * 192 .. :(

As an additional.....read the fault codes....that will tell us if its receiving a signal from the immobiliser ECU or not

Point taken :-[
have checked both transponders all ok

Have read fault codes only get 19

Sorry Entwood

Well its fair to say that if you have a 19 (should have read the FULL original post :-?) then you do have a crank sensor issue which needs to be addressed!
So fill yah boots!

Just thought I would give you an update.
Fitted new crank sensor this morning and she works again ! ;D ;D
