Title: tow bar electrics to cars plug on loom.
Post by: feeutfo on 06 January 2009, 18:51:24
the dealers tell me this plug (to plug on cars wiring loom) is only available with the genuine vx electrics kit, which is £50 (ffs)

Is this the only plug available that will fit? I really dont want to have to cut the plug off the car loom and pess about. I was hoping to attach the correct plug to my electrics kit which came with the tow bar.

Or are vx saying they can only supply the kit complete and i can get the plug from a pikey... sorry, caravan shop? :-)

The plug on the car loom looks pretty special to me, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's only available on VXs wiring kit.

I chopped mine.  :-X

3 or 4 Omegas sacrificed the plug from it's boot so that I could make up a plug for my 12N loom ;). However, while I was in the boot area of my Astra G estate the other day, I noticed a plug that looked the same, near the nearside tail-lights.

You have a female socket on the loom with a male plug in it with the linking wire across the rear fog terminals for use with an 8 core cable & a 12N socket with the micro switch built in to turn the car's fogs off when the trailer fogs are on.
My Astra uses the plug & socket for errrrr?  :-/

Ah! I forgot it was a facelift. Prefacelift are square, same idea though. There's a plug that has a blue/black bridging/link wire for the fog lights still, otherwise you won't have any rear fogs on your car. SWMBO's 52 Astra hatch has the same plug & socket.

Possibly worth baring back the sheathing a few inches from the plug, wrap and solder, oh! and shrink wrap the connections too.  That way you keep the plug just in case and do the job cheaply too...  It's what I did for my towable home ;)
