There are many topics about Autobox oil change. Most suggest to use Dexron III as it’s the best oil and was used in these boxes. I was really surprised, when I went to Vx dealer to get DIII for Vectra P/S.
Guy checked EPC and told that they don’t have DIII for Vectra. I asked him to check Omega Autobox oil and to my surprise there was only DII on the list!! I didn’t believe my eyes so I had to check it myself. There was only 1 oil under 00 Omega!! Another guy came to confirm that and he said that they have DIII but it’s only a Saab item and was only used by Saab.
I wanted to buy DIII and they found it on the shelf – it was in Saab section and they had problems typing item no, as it wasn’t recognized as Vx part.
Many people will say that it’s better to use good oil, but for me it’s like engine oil. I would change 10W40 to 0W40 after 100k as it would kill engine at some stage.
Are they right, or is there something I don’t know?
I am not looking for opinions, just facts. I’ve also changed oil to DIII but I wasn’t completely sure it was right decision and secondly I only did like 10k miles. What will happened after 60-100k?
What do you think about it?

I bought Dexron 111 from my local VX dealer last year but I had to give them the part No and they had to order it in.

This is a common problem. Several people has reported dealers telling them this.
Dex III is the correct fluid. The specification was reduced to Dex II for the power steering but remains in force for the auto gearboxes.
It could be that later VX cars have moved on to a later specification and they have dropped Dex III from their shelves.
Probably better to buy some Titan 4000 from Opie oils in any case.
Kevin
<EDIT>: Sorry, that was a mixture of opinion, facts and speculation. :-[ Either way, you've done the right thing IMO.

In a word, No

in the owners handbook that vx supply with the car it states dexron II, well it does in mine anyway but as im now on an AR35 i use dexron III. :y

I know about P/S fluid changed to DII (due to hoses sweating), but as I said DIII is not listed in Vauhxall EPC as a Vauxhall part. I always thought that GM changed DII to DIII in cars in 99. Some people say that Omegas FL were the first ones with DIII. In this situation there would be a DIII listed as an Omega fluid. Unfortunately there was only DII, so it means that DIII was never supplied to these boxes. Any services Omega has DII.
As per engine oil – oil change from 10W40 to 0W40 after ca 100k will increase oil consumption, clean all deposits (“seals” especially under piston rings) and eventually reduce oil pressure. Don’t want to argue about it as it’s not my opinion but a fact I’ve seen.

My Vx dealer recently told me only Dexron VI was recommended for my Omega's PAS, and Dexron II & III had been replaced by this.
However, after much debate on the Forum I challenged my dealer on his statement just before Christmas, to be told that their system had been amended and Dexron III was the ATF to use for both the PAS or the auto box itself, with both Dexron II & VI off the menu!!! ::) ::) ::) ::)
So you tell me what Dexron is actually recommended by Vx?!!! ::) ::)
Before I change fully my ATF shortly I will be taking back the Dexron VI they sold me, and finally ascertaining what is recommended by Vx!!:D :D ;)

I thought you were saying that you would not use 10w40 after 100k as it would kill the engine :-?

Any w40 oil in good condition will be the same viscosity at working temperature (give or take a bit) since the 40 viscosity rating is the viscosity at, IIRC, 100 degrees C, so near enough working temperature in an engine.
A 0w40 oil as opposed to a 10w40 oil just had a lower "winter" rating, meaning it is thinner when cold. Once warm, it's exactly the same.
Of course, if you put in a cheap and nasty 0w40 and use it too long the VI improvers break down and you will end up with thin oil. Better to use a 10w40 in such circumstances.
Anyway, I don't want to argue either. Nor turn this into an Oil Thread. :-X

I changed ATF last year, I was sold DEXII after the change and reading reports on this Forum I located with some trouble DEXIII from local motor factor and changed it over after taking advice from people on this and another vauxhall site.

Lizzie - is there D VI?
Elite Pete - my mistake. If any engine was running on XX oil, same one should be used, as usage of higher rated stuff might not be as good as we think.
Kev - as far as I remember you are 100% right. However from my experience, I've seen engines where users changed from 10W to 5W40 and end up in higher oil consumption. On the other hand, my last Vectra was running on 10W40 (ca 70k) and Kwik-Fit "specialist" put 15W40 telling me that it's a "high quality Mobil oil". Engine was warming up in much shorter time but was getting too hot than on 10W40. I changed to 10W40 again and it all went back to normal (apart from leaks from oil sump and head which started after change to 15W).
Anyway, it's not an engine oil discussion (as Kev said before).
Can anyone check in EPC what oil they suggest for Omega.

Just interested to know if there is any noticeable difference to the auto box performance after changing the oil? :-?

think the other way round, the oil usually only gets changed after a loss of performance, i.e. unusuall changes, thumping, banging or eventually slipping which is really bad news as its often too late by then.
vx treat the box as a sealed unit... :o
