Does anyone know of a way to get more oomph from a 2.0?
You all know it's a very big heavy car and the 4 pot just isn't enough.
The worst part is I can't get a v6 without selling a kidney to pay for the insurance.

I was going to answer in a rather flippant way. just fit a V6! ::) ::)
But if insurance is a problem I am sure someone will come up with an idea.
In the old days I would have suggested fitting better twin carburetors or turbo-charging, but what now not sure! ;)

That will happen at some point ::) but not until i've a decent ncd and the body the old mans v6 taxi is finally knackered.

like with any engine mate any improvements made to fuel in spark n gases out can but only help performance ...
good set of plugs and leads bosch super 4`s fuelcat leads , improved cold air feed to a aftermarket filter be it either standard airbox with sports filter or a cone idea like a k&n you can also source a modified throttle body along with a performance exhaust system,
itll never set the world alight in such a heavy car but those improvements should improve your overall driving enjoyment :y
hth al :)

The human body can work perfectly o.k. on one kidney :) :y

But if that one fails i'm f*cked!
Anyways i'm rebuilding my engine at the moment and was wondering if there is any cheap/in the shed/spannery/James May type thing that can be done?

To get any worthwhile more power would cost more than the extra insurance - just wait a year

Dialisis has come along way in the last few years ::)

ah now ive heard stories about these apparantly there sh1t, they can over heat and melt piston crowns :-?

The GM 4 electrode plugs are effectively rebadged Super 4s and much cheaper.
I don't believe plugs can improve performance significantly. Yes, you need a plug that's going to be reliable, but if it's igniting the mixture reliably it can't do any more than that. Once combustion has started its' job is done.
There are arguments that say 4 electrode plugs shroud the spark and aren't as good as traditional plugs. In reality having 4 electrodes gives you 4 times the amount of material to get eroded by the spark and longer life, but probably little more.
Now, if an "upgrade" results in an inappropriate heat grade of plug that runs too hot, you could end up with detonation and piston damage.
.. and the induction system (airbox, filter, maf) aren't restrictive on a 3.0 / 3.2 V6 so they are more than capable of feeding a 2.0.
If you are rebuilding the engine I would investigate if there's anything you can do to improve the ports. Not sure how restrictive they are on this engine but you need to know what you're doing here because you need to improve the gas flow without slowing it down too much. It's not just about opening up the ports as big as you can. It may even not be worthwhile without hotter cams, etc.

Naaaa dont believe them mate...they told my Dad he would be quite healthy without a stomach...till he died. :o ;D
To be honest ive had a few 2.0"s and ive always found them too be fairly nippy...just need a bit more encourgemant than the V6"s.

I always found the 2.0 to be underpowered in my girlfriend's calibra. Dread to think how sluggish it feels in a car weighing an extra 500Kg.

on my old 2 ltr vec i found a few extra ponies by fitting schrick fast road cams , a regal enlarged t/b , ported and polished head bought on german e bay , piper cross viper induction kit , lexmaul 4 branch manifold and decat exhaust system .... had a few other bits and bobs as well . but i have to say it wasn't cheap :-X...but luckily i got most of it back selling as parts when i broke the vec and bought the omega
v6 is definately the way forward if you can wait a while though :y

my 2.0 auto did 60 sub 10 seconds, thats not too slow and that was just with decent spark plugs and air filter (and good servicing)
