Title: Srange misfire on 2.5 V6 - HELP!!
Post by: Mj on 11 January 2009, 13:36:09
HELP!! I have a 1995 Omega with a 2.5 V6 and manual gearbox, which has run well since April 2008 when I bought it, but now it has decided to start playing the weird misfire game!!
Fine when cold, starts 1st time and goes onto "choke". While engine is operating "on choke" there is NO MISFIRE at all regardless of engine speed/load. As soon as the engine warms up and comes off choke the misfire starts. Seems to be one or maybe two cylinders, still goes well but sounds rough and when idling I can feel the off-balance firing through the car!!!
It's not using lots more fuel or making any strange noises, and ive had NO FAULT codes even when it is obviously missing.

I will be changing the plugs and leads as a matter of course but don't really want to do the dis-pack coz it looks like a pig of a job!!
I would have thought if it was a lead/plug the misfire would be there all the time, so would I be right in thinking the next thing to change would be the dis-pack?
Any help here would be much appreciated!!

Also, can the breather pipes be cleaned thoroughly WITHOUT removing the engine? If so, how?

I have been asked why I don't just sell my Omega and get something else, simple that one, it's quick enough, comfortable, handles well, has all the toys I need, returns decent fuel economy and looks much nicer than most 14 year old cars!! Oh yeah, and it only cost £400!! :)

Cheers in advance for any help.  :y

Check for oil in the plug wells, if oil is there then the cam cover gaskets are shot. if no oil present then it will most likley be your dis pack causing the fault. you also need to check that the heater by pass valve is not leaking and spraying water on to the dis pack as this will also fuber the unit.
